Recognizing Our Mentors
David Smith and Jahkai Washington enjoy their mentoring time together. David has been Jahkai’s mentor since 2004. This fall, Jahkai Washington was one the winners of the essay contest that was conducted at Chestatee Middle School’s “Who I Am Makes A Difference†campaign during the week of November 17-21, 2008. The week’s emphasis was designed for the students to honor and thank those persons who have made a positive difference in their lives. Jahkai decided to honor his mentor and wrote his essay about their relationship, “Mr. Smith has taught me the way into becoming a young strong man. He also has taught me the way of life, and fighting isn’t always the way to deal with your problems…. This is who has made a difference in my life.â€
