Intern Spotlight: Deanne Beaton
Our interns are making a difference in Gainesville City/Hall County. This month’s spotlight turns to intern Deanne Beaton.
We are blessed to have Deanne working with us at White Sulphur. She is able to work with children on issues who would otherwise not have the opportunity. The children express the benefits best. One fifth grade boy says, “She makes talking fun because we play games and I can talk about the issues in my life that are causing me stress.†A second grade girl says, “I haven’t had someone that I could talk to since my Nanny died, and now I do. —Susanne Cepec Croft (Counselor, White Sulphur Elementary)
The other day I noticed one of the 2nd grade students Deanne is seeing seemed so much happier! He is not getting in trouble and we were even able to cancel a SST meeting with his mom because he has made significant progress in improved behavior! —Kim Hall (Counselor, Fair Street IB Academy)
Ms. Beaton was placed to counsel a 7th grade student who was experiencing a difficult incident which negatively impacted her life. Ms. Beaton was instrumental in using her newly-learned counseling techniques to establish a trust-based sharing relationship with her client. Together, both counselor and client, throughout weeks of individual counseling services at the school, were able to successfully establish a positive and trusting relationship. Cooperatively, while being aided in exploring powerful emotions during the weekly counseling sessions, Ms. Beaton was able to assist her client in becoming more accepting and satisfied with her everyday life. As a result, the student is much more at ease and content at school and at her home environment. The services provided by Center Point are of great value to my students and our school. —Matty Castro-Garmley, M.S. (Gainesville Middle School)
