January is National Mentoring Month! A sincere and heartfelt thanks goes out to each of you that give your time, energy, and heart to serve our students. 2011 Rocked! You Helped!

2011 rocked and you helped! From the thousands of students and families we served in the community to the generous support that helped aid in this effort, you made the difference. Participation in our first annual online auction was fantastic and, through it, we were able to meet a number of financial goals. Many of you took part in the auction and experienced the fun firsthand. Others of you “brought” the fun by donating items. We appreciate each of you. Already we’re exploring the possibility of another auction. Are you ready for “Christmas in July?”

While the auction did not bring in 100% of the funds we needed across the board, contributions in response to our annual letter filled in the gaps nicely and exceed expectations. Again, it could not have been done without you, our supporters. You’re the best!

Great American Smokeout

“The American Cancer Society is marking the 36th Great American Smokeout on November 17 by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By doing so, smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk. Quitting smoking is not easy, but it can be done. To have the best chance of quitting successfully, you need to know what you’re up against, what your options are, and where to go for help.” (Courtesy: American Cancer Society)

Center Point SWAT teams are partnering with The Lanier Georgia Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society by collecting shoes to display in front of the hospital along Downey Street. The installation will occur on November 17th, from 7 AM to 5 PM. 1200 shoes will be collected and displayed, representing the 1200 lives that are lost daily to tobacco-related illnesses, as a part of the Remember the Soles campaign.
